Duster,

I wouldn't have one for free because there are not many parts on it usable on a slant six. Here a 318 and trans in a running vehicle can be had for $300 but you might need a set of tires. Remember the old Commander Cody song..brakes are good, tires are fair?

A good slant plus trans can be had often for free too, so why would anyone want a 318? I might go 25 miles to pick up a 400 something to rebuild and sell to make some bucks on the group of folks that like that kind of thing, though. Those blocks bring enough bucks here to buy a nice slant car or truck!

Recently I had a good running 318 that I gave away. I am not sure where you are located but around here 318 are considered junk. I couldn't sell it for $50....I don't think I would pay $450 for one with a transmission. Is it rebuilt and does he have receipts well maybe, but not for a used engine and trans with unknown millage or high millage.

Offer half what he's asking. Any more is too much, and not worth the trouble...there are plenty of 318's out there.

Trying to sell a 318 is like trying to sell a Slant. Many selling one think they are worth a ton of money, but the people buying them don't agree.

My brother has a '78 Newport that's actually a pretty nice car for just $200. Yes, it's 318 powered. I think it needs wiper linkage bushings and the windshield may be cracked, but it's straight, has a good interior and not that many miles. If you're willing to pull the 318 and trans you can probably recover $100 scrapping the hulk.

I have seen several 80's V8 Dodge cars at the auto auction, they usually sell for $100 or less. Contact your local tow yards they usually have weekly auctions to sell the cars that people don't pick up.
