Post subject: | rocker arm adjustment |
So I'm having a problem with my 1975 valiant. It's making a clicking noise under my valve cover. so I pulled it off to adjust rocker arms. I believe that the gap for intake is .010 and exhaust is .020 I adjusted several times in a low idle and then sped it upand did it again. When I tighted seveal of the loose arms the louder clicking sound went away but the engine began to run rougher and on the verge of stalling. Any suggestions, this was my first time doing this and any best practices would really help. |

Welcome to the board. You're probably right that your car needs a valve adjustment. Read through the valve adjustment procedure and see how it might differ from what you did. |

I did this twice maybe a week ago. You most likely over tightened the rockers which in turn rough running or almost stall. use a feeler gauge and slide it between the rocker and the spring get it in the middle of the gauge pulls right out easy and you can't pull it out without using some force you should notice missing/almost stalling if you tightened too much. |
