The fan motor for the heater in my 63 Valiant stopped working, so I need to replace it. Does anyone have an idea what years other than 63 will fit? Thanx for your help and consideration. Regards. RMDV.

Motor's changed over the years I have found...

'plug and play' heater boxes as a whole are by the type (a/c non a/c), and family (so like 63-66 would be a close match, 67-72ish, 73-76...the 73-76 boxes fit the 67-72 family but the blower fans are smaller than the mid versions...)...

Maybe Dan's got a place that can get you just the replacement motor rewound or new, as junkyard units are a gamble on working or not...

On the late ones the motor speed was toned down by a resistive wire that was exposed to the heat in the box and determined when it was 'hot' it would slow down so you didn't heat up the drivers, this part might be broken, also check your fuse box and make sure the heater fuse/etc... isn't tanked either, before digging further into it...

Not to harp on the obvious but a rig that old will most likely have some corrosion problems,so check out the switch connections and ground.I see you live on the "dry side"of the state but even "over there" things get cruddy :) Had one of my mops quit working and yada, yada finally figured it just needed a connection tune-up,works just ducky now 8)

The '63-'72 non-A/C A-body blower motors are all alike. Spectra Premium #0335540 or Four Seasons #35540. About $50. RockAuto's got 'em. Be sure to get the correct motor — the one with dual shafts (one out each end) is for Mopar under dash air.

SlantSixDan,

Thanx for dthe lead to the fan motor from RockAuto. Ordered one, got it and installed it. Only thing was I had to remove three plates that are part of a ring spot welded to the middle of the motor housting. These plates probably were used for some models other than mine (the salesman said it fit a '64 Baracuda), but other than that and installing slightly longer through bolts to hold the motor to the plate that is bolted to the heater housing, everything works well. Hot air comes out of the various orifices (maybe that should be orifie, plural) as it is intended and does not make a lot of noise. Thanx again for the lead. RMDV.
