| Post subject: | 3M Weather Adhesive on New Door Molding |
I bought new rubber weatherstripping that goes down the door and around the bottom and back up the other side for my 74 Dart Sport. Steele Rubber is the manufacturer and the package came with no instructions. If anyone has ever replaced that molding, should I use 3-M molding adhesive to hold it on the door? Jerry (74Dart) and I talked about it and we both agree the adhesive makes sense to use. Any reasons not to use adhesive? Of course it has those little push-pins built into the rubber to hold it in the door. |

If you ever plan on removing it, don't use it or else the rubber may come out in pieces. Or use it sparingly. I don't see any reason to if the clips work well for you - maybe just on the ends? I removed my seals to paint the car. The clips tore the rubber on removal so I couldn't use the clips on reinstall. They are holding well with the glue alone. |

Thanks Pierre. I spoke to an old mopar guy today and he told me the factory did not use adhesive back in the day. He said after the door stays closed for a while, the rubber molding will form to the door and stay in place. He also said a little adhesive at the thick ends where the screws hold down the ends would be a good idea. I plan to do just that and not all the way around the rubber where the pins push into the door. |
