It's not a perfect fit, but it's not bad at all. Not having to spend $160 for a new tank was most welcome. The top front of the '67's original tank has a depression running from left to right that matches a depression in the trunk floor. It looks like it would help keep the tank from moving for and aft. There is another depression on the underside of the original tank where the single tank strap ran side-to-side. The Duster tank has indentations on the lower outboard corners where the strap goes so I'm not worried about the strap moving.

The $200 Duster parts car has now donated it's disc brakes, large bolt pattern 7 1/4, and the gas tank. Such a deal.

The original reason for replacing the gas tank was damage from a ham fisted tow truck driver, but '67's tank was super nasty inside too. There is tons of rust and no sender float to be found. When I was previously trying to get the car to start easily and idle well I put in 4-5 gallons of fresh gas and rebuilt the carb, but it still ran poorly. I thought the only gas that was in the tank was the fresh stuff I added as the gauge was on 'E'. How wrong I was! The fuel gauge read empty as the float had fallen or rotted of the sender's arm. I pumped probably 10 gallons of foul yellow gas from the tank. I'm hopeful that with fresh fuel the car will idle much better and stop stalling.

Post subject:  Yep...

Last Time I had the 'beater Valiant's' tank out I compared it with a 1974 and 1976 tank....dimensionally they are exactly the same size, same spare tire well indentation, the only difference is the 'backpack' retaining straps on the later models vs. the single 'belly' strap on the 1967...

Which still leads me and a few others to believe the only reason each model was rated with a different gas tank capacity is how the neck vent is structured in the filler neck of the car.... (so if you need 16 gallons in your feather duster...grab a similar fill neck from a 1974 Duster...18 gallon? Fill neck from a 1967 Valiant- sorry no 'space duster' options on that model)...

cool beans,
