Thanks to everyone for all the great advice. I pulled the valve cover today as was recommended and look what I found

#1 Cylinder, both valves frozen in head and pushrods destroyed
#6 Cylinder, exhaust valve frozen and pushrod destroyed

Looks like I'll be swapping to a 225..................

This means rest of engine is throughly caked too.

Time to take engine completely apart and rebuild.

Cheers, Wizard

Is there such a thing as second dibs?

Guys I am sorry. That was probably a poor joke to make on a site dedicated to and full of /6 enthusiasts.

But whatever I don't use from it will definitely be up for grabs. I really don't have much space here, and what I do is chock full of big and small blocks. I know, I know the "bent eights" make my character suspect......but I swear I am really an ok guy :)

Yep. Be hard to justify with two 225 laying around right now, too. Want to meet half way and trade?

I keep dreaming of a 170/198 crank stroker and am having problems dropping it (much to my wife's chagrin :D ). But she did say she was ok with a road trip.

Sounds like you have a keeper there. But then you married her, so you musta known that :)

So, 2000 miles for a 170? I'm thinkin' you could probably find one a bit closer for less than 1/8th the gas money!

I've seen sludge before but now I'm impressed. Wow, how does an engine accumulate that much?

I'm guessing Quaker Cake. That looks just NASTAY. There's a reason I only ever use Mobil 1 synthetic. So far I'm already two oil changes in on this engine and every time I drain the oil it's like it's getting an enema. I really need to use the Dan Stern Engine Cleaning Soup when I get some time...

I think thats due more to major neglect then bad oil. I wonder what the bottom end looks like.

Maybe his speedo was slow by a factor of 10 or so. Instead of 3000 miles he may of been changing oil every 30,000!
