The 2 that race in the Slant series are both tube chassis race cars. Putting a Slant in them was relatively easy. Not sure how hard it would be on a stock Arrow.

Is it hard to put a /6 in a arrow? Can anyone supply me photos or info?? I've seen the exterior photos of some arrow race cars, but a nice street car with a hopped up /6 would be nice and different! |

Not to be negative, but YES, it would be hard. Give the guys driving those arrows some credit for a moment and imagaine the countless hours of fabrication necessary to put this drivetrain into such a small car. It can and has been done, but it is not a 'quick' project or suggested for a 'first time' mechanic. If you have some background in welding and metal fabrication and you have installed a few motors then you should get an idea of what is involved. Keep in mind that a lot of money will be needed for custom exhaust and other requirements of a 'street' car. A great way to start would be to show up at a race that Dale Rose is attending. He's got a pretty nice arrow and isn't usually shy about telling you all about it. Helps if he has a few beers. I seem to recall an article on another guy building an arrow in the slant six racing news last year. Maybe with some luck they will post some back issues of the news online when the news goes digital next spring. Don't want to discourage anybody, but realistically, this isn't for the faint of heart or wallet. |

That may have been me you're thinking about, but it's not an Arrow, it's the Mitsu-built Challenger body. I didn't think it went too bad, but I did have some guidance from a friend that's one hell of a fabricater. I had to use a van/pickup oil pan and pickup screen. Used older bisquit type engine brackets, slightly modified to get the right amount of tilt, but they set right down on the original 4-banger mountings on the K-frame. Also requires a rather large hole in the firewall, with an accompanying engine setback. I suggest that you may be able to get it in there, but the Arrow has a lower hood line than the Challenger/Sapporo body, so hood clearances may be your biggest issue. Roger |
