Post subject:  Lead-Plate

The 1964 Plymouth FSM manual says to only use "Lead-Plate", MoPar Part#2275437 to lubricate the windshield wiper park mechanism - quote:

"Use of any other lubricant other than Lead-Plate (such as lubriplate, etc) will result in noisy operation, rapid wear of components and premature failure of the parking mechanism"

What is the stuff and what's so special about it?

'LED-PLATE' is a brand name of lead based anti-seize. Says on my can, 'A pure metallic lead base for maintance and assembly' I would imagine because the lead is soft it won't squeek? A dense Moly based lube would prbably do the trick. You could check into Dow Corning Gn-lube.

Just don't eat it or use it as a condiment.

Led-Plate is a paste-type anti-seize made out of lead dust in grease. It can still be bought from your local lawnmower repair shop, Briggs & Stratton p/n 93963. That is a 1-lb can with brush top. You would probably do just as well with a nickel-, silver-, copper-, or graphite-based antiseize compound, but if you want the genuine article, it is still available.

Thanks all! It's good to know what it is and that you can still get it.
