Ok, I need some help. Through a process of replacing fried wiring, I came across a purple (violet per wiring diagram). On the diagram (from the repair manual) it says its a temp sensor. It has a sparkplug-like connector that connects right above the fan area. First question, is there a replacement wire with connect and is this a coolant fan switch that it connects to? If so is there any trick to replacing it? And is this the type I'd need, Napa ECHTS6178? ![]() Thanks -Dan |

There is no fan switch on a vehicle with an engine/belt driven fan. ![]() Yes, there is a replacement wire with connector, but the p/n's in my office, so that'll have to wait. |

Nothin' wrong with your question, just having a little fun. Good job getting the real manual. Did you get the other two books in this thread yet? Replacing the sender is a good idea. |

Not yet, I searched for them back when you first told me to get them but since then I got sidetracked and haven't looked since then. |

The temp sender replacement pigtail is NAPA Belden number 784827: ![]() When you buy the replacement sender, get the Echlin unit, not the cheaper generic -- the quality difference is worth the couple extra bucks. |

Thanks Dan, I appreciate it. Hopefully today I can go pick that up along with some more wire to finish up this rewiring job. Check this out, I have been going through the service manual diagram and have been replacing wires where they are supposed to be (I can't rely on where they were. Well, I followed at wire from the alternator and it goes in through the firewall (where it connects in there I haven't got that far). But on the diagram it goes to the regulator I believe ( I dont have the diagram in front of me). Maybe this is why wires got fried huh? Thanks again for the p/n Dan |

Hey Dan, I got the connector and temp sending unit just a bit ago. They had a hard time finding those parts and wanted to sell me the generic sender but I said no, that I'd wait for the echlin part. Its coming along, slowly but surely. Thanks again |
