question for the masses. the heat control valve inside my exhast manifold is gone. the shaft that it mounted to is still there. all the coil springs on the side of the manifold are gone as well. my question for you guys is, is do i need to replace my exhaust manifold? is this heat control valve an essential piece of the /6 puzzle?

thanks

russ

Russ,

Well, yes and no. Ifl your valve were stuck, you would need to get it flapping. I live where it is rarely colder than 10 deg. F in winter and have run fine without one, kinda like not using a choke. In cold lands, probably need it. You just need to learn how to feather the gas cold.

you onn't need to replace the mainfold. You can replace each or all the parts...the shaft, flapper, springs, etc,. Last year Slant Six Dan posted the parts numbers and I bought about 6 complete sets of parts by calling all the dealers listing pars in Mopar parts locator. If you feel you really need a kit or set PM me. Others may say you need it, but it seems you are running without it now, correct?

not running yet. soon to be dropping the engine back into it. i overhauled it earlier this year. i just recently got back from a deployment to the middle east so i finally have a little bit of time to do it. i live near omaha, so it gets pretty darn cold there. right now im in oklahoma visiting family. if i can find the part numbers in the forums, ill call around when i get home and see if i cant locate the parts. if i cant, ill definitely be interested in buying some off ya.

thanks

russ
