Does anyone have a brand and part number for the conversion u-Joint, to install a 8 inch Ford rear into an "A" body. I have been having trouble locating the correct one. |

Looks like you've been on a bit of a goose chase for awhile on this one. Suggest you call up Randy's Ring & Pinion, tell them exactly what you need, and they can probably spit out a p/n for you in no time. |

Yeah, I really don't know why I am haveing a problem. The NAPA numbers (319 and 0353) don't work for me. Took the yoke and driveshaft to a driveshaft shop, and they could not match anything up. If someone that has done this swap could measure their yoke (dia of the cups, distance across the cups, and the lenth of the yoke) it might help. I just might have to have a driveshaft modified to take the Ford joint. Really would like to try the Ford rear in my 66 Valinat. 4.10 gear and I could use the Wheels and slicks off my Cuda (6 by 26 by 15 on LBP wheels), to try the combo.

Charlie: Try NAPA 315G 5-13016X 20599 I got 2 boxes with the right number and the wrong U joint last month. There is really only one joint that works and it is fairly easy to get . I now have one on each end of my driveshaft. |

I wanted to keep a spare rear and driveshaft, so when I did mine I got a spare driveshaft to go with the ford rear and a spare mopar shaft to go with my trans. I was quoted a very reasonable price to have the two combined into one driveshaft at a custom length (and balanced) by a local driveline shop. Seems more expensive at first, but with the offset center on the 7 1/2" ford (and buzzier ratio!) I plan to eat more U-joints, so I want to be able to walk into a parts store and buy them off the shelf. Good luck Kevin |

Thanks for the info, Sandy. I'll try to check it out Saturday. Both the dimensions and availability. Radar: I agree on the fabbed drive shaft approch. Right now I would just like to install the Ford rear as cheaply as possible, to try a different gear tire combo. At this point in time, I just don't have a "core" driveshaft or the money to get it done. Mostof the drive shafts I have are the type with the front flange converted to a slip yoke. Don't want to Modify any of them. |

Ordered the PUJ457C from NAPA. They said it will be about a week. Has to come from the factory. Will see if it fits. |

Watch that the ujoint is the same as listed on the box.....I had 2 wrong ujoints in correct boxes sent to me. NAPA only lists 6 conversion ujoints in my catalouge.....my 1984 catalouge...hence the number FUBAR/mixups. I eventually got the right nfo from NAPAonline. |

Finally remembered to stop and get the u-joint. This is the same as one of the others, I tried. It doesn't fit either. So, I give up. If I am having this much trouble geting a joint, I am just going to have the rear yoke on the driveshaft changed, and use a Ford u-joint. Will do it over the winter. Have to decide what driveshaft to use, a early style with a B&T conversion front, or a late style slip yoke. |

Charlie, here's the one I ordered, and I plan to install in the next 2 weeks so I'll let you know. It cost $14 at Rock Auto. The Napa number for that part is: NUJ2400353 http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductDetail.aspx?MfrCode=PRE&MfrPartNumber=319 MJ |

My understanding is that no one will supply the exact U-joint outta the box. What you need is a joint to adapt a later model Mustang (like 1986 5.0L) to a 7260 Chrysler, THEN buy a joint or get 2 caps for a Maverick (say 1972) with 8" rear. This is what I did. Chances are Randy's or Denny's Driveshaft can supply you this directly w/o buying two joints. The problem is that the caps on the Mustang joint are 1 1/6" and the Maverick or early Mustang caps are 1 1/8". These caps will interchange on the same joint stub shaft. I think I had a late Mustang to 7260 joint laying around and just went and bought a $14 Maverick joint and swapped caps. That should do ya, Lou |

Ah soooooo. That seems to be what I have been running into. When the length is correct, the dia is wrong. I have decided it is actuall less trouble to have the rear of the driveshaft changed to accect the Ford U-joint. |

That is also a good solution. The joint for the Maverick, IIRC, has a 1 1/16" pair of cups for the DS yoke and a 1 1/8" pair of cups for the diff yoke? Lou |
