i think i may have located a slant for the 40 plymee. date code on it is( b 225 2 28 ) would this mean 1972 225 engine. i know it's a older vintage, but not sure just how to read the code. thanks Chuck |

That code means you're looking at a 225 made on February 28, 1966. |

would this engine be a good choice ? it supposedly has a forged crank, and larger rods than the newer style. thanks, Chuck |

All three slant-6 engines (170, 198, 225) used a forged crank through midyear '76. Starting then, a cast crank with narrower bearings was substituted. This '66 engine, if it is fundamentally sound, would be a fine choice to build up. |

Main thing to consider, is the pilot hole in the end of the crank. The 67 older engines had a smaller pilot hole for the torque converter, and flange for the flexplate/flywheel, then the 68 and newer engines. |

considering the difference in the rear of the crankshaft, would there be any problems bolting up a later manual trans? i would really like to put a later 4 speed o.d. unit in this car. thanks, \ Chuck |

Chuck, in a word..."no" No problems puting in the 4 speed. If you have the fabricaton skills to get the engine in, adapting either crank to the input shaft is child's play, only requiring a bearing. If your crank is unfinished and the bore has not been depened, you can cut off part of the input shaft. rock '64d100 |

Still have to consider the different size of the flywheel center hole. Need the early flywheel, or make an adapter "ring", to use the late flywheel.

thanks guys, all this info helps prevent surprises. i hate surprises. no i won't have any problem getting the engine and trans mounted up, the biggest thing i see is that the slant appears to be about 3" longer, and i will have to relocate radiator, and or recess firewall. the problem with moving firewall back is that there is a area on passenger side thar sticks out for the original heater box, and due to the "slant" of the engine, may prevent removal of the head at a later time. i always try to think ahead for future service. haven't got the engine yet, but hope to have by next weekend, then i can do some real measuring. again ,,, thanks for the input.
