As a last resort our car club called me to race after some regulars broke. I grew up watching some drag racing and drove circle tracks, but had not actually done any drag racing. I headed to the track, got teched, emptied the trunk and got in line. Hoping the car would break into the 19s at this altitude (over 5300 ft) and in its state of tune (Headers, Isky cam, 1bbl, 904, 3.23s) I was pleasantly surprised when it ran 19.79 @69.26 the first run. After figuring out the drill I was able to get the car to a best time of 19.63...but on a 19.73 dial. It picked up a .100 between rounds and that was after I was hard on the brakes at the lights. I am not sure why if got so much quicker with only 10 minutes between rounds. I was able to win 4 rounds and come in 8th of over 180 cars!
Only problem is now I am hooked!

I took the car to the last club race of the year and had a ball again. I tried launching (well as much as I can call a 2.63 60' time a "launch") the car harder and was able to get it down to a 19.52. I was able to go 3 more rounds too. The car is so easy to drive it really makes me look good! the only down side to the evening was beating the only other slant entered in the first round!

Great stuff! Glad you've got the bug - time to make a few mods to the car for fun.

A lot less body damage than circle track, too! :D

I seem to remember DD telling me to clamp the front half of my leaf springs. Seems it stiffens them up, acting a bit like a "slapper" bar, and allows a bit harder and quicker launch.

Thanks guys...and yes, MUCH easier on body work than circle track. I plan on rebuilding the carb and tuning the car over the winter. I am not looking to go too much faster, but love the consistancy of the car.
