I just replaced the '67 tranny in my Valiant that had the single post/wire for the reverse light switch, with a 1974 Tranny with the dual post switch... Is there a 'workaround' on how to convert from one to the other? Is it just 'replace 67 loop with a clip terminal like on the 1974 style switch, then ground the other terminal'? Never done this before, and '67 has plenty of 'differences' from it much more evolved 73-76 cousins... Thanks, -D.Idiot |

The single wire switch on the 67 tranny, is not for backup lites. It is the neutral start switch. Your backup lites should still work just like stock. To wire in the 3 wire switch into your 67, get a wire "pigtail", to plug onto the switch, and connect your original (67) single wire to the center pin on the switch (pretty sure it is that pin, I will check later). Then the starter circuit will work properly. |

Maybe I should be a bit more specific, as this will make things a bit more interesting... The A-230 manual tranny has a two prong plug for the backup lamp, the A-904 has a single terminal for the neutral safety switch...so the neutral safety switch wire can be wired to the clutch pedal safety switch?...then I should unhook the reverse light wire from the switch at the base of the column and run it to the tranny switch pigtail then back to the sister wire at the base of the column? Thanks for the clarification Charlie, really do appreciate it! -D.Idiot |

I just read an article on this very problem, but there were no pictures for reference and just wanted to double check that the procedure is 'correct'... Appreciate it! -D.Idiot |
