Thinking about a rear gear ratio change. I have 3.55's now and around town its OK. Thinking about selling my truck so I'll be driving the car more often. Just to give you an idea of the amount I may drive, the truck is an 04' with 19,000 miles on it. My daughter lives a 3 hour round trip away and I usaully take the truck every other weekend. Its all highway and traffic is running at 80-85 mph. I could live with 70- 75 mph and not be a big hazard. To run 70 mph I'll be turning 3300 rpm plus some converter slipage. (3200 stall). What gear is available around the 3.0 range? According to my math that would bring me to 2700 rpm plus converter slipage. Your thoughts. Just run what I got? PS Foot braking the converter stalls at 2900 then tires start spinning. |

For 8 1/4 rear ends you have plenty of options: http://tinyurl.com/3ygpvz |

Did some checking and apparntly no body still carries the 3.08 ratio. I am likely going to keep what I've got but it would be nice to have them on the shelf. |

Man... how I love the 8 3/4 "drop-out". I know what you mean about 3.55s, I never seem to keep that gear in the car for long. I call 3.55 the "middle of nowhere" ratio, it's not good for the highway or at the track. (it does work OK with an OD transmission) Funny that you saw the 3.08 ratio, I found a 3.07 gear for an 8 3/4 and I really like that ratio. It's right between the 2.94 and the 3.23 gears you usually find. DD |
