I have a 1967 Dart that is a drag race only car. I bought the car this year and it runs 9.04 in the 1/8. I want to get the car into the 7 second range. I was given a 1970 225 out of an old duster (I think) and this is gonna be my "Big Boy" motor. So basically my question is, where is the best place to start? I have heard great things about Clifford performance. Is that the best place to get parts? Reading these forums you guys seem to know a lot about the slant 6 and I am looking for some direction and any help will be appreciated. |

What's the deal with Clifford? Thanks Frank As for specific questions: 1. The car currently has an Offey intake. Since I am just using this car for drag racing, what is the best manifold to use? I have a Holley 600 cfm 4 barrel that I will use. 2. I want the best cam, who makes the best cam for strictly drag racing? 3. Headers, who make the best headers? 4. Which is better, use the 198 rods with 2.2L pistons or use the 228 rods with the 2.2L pistons. And where is the best place to get the 2.2L forged pistons? Thanks for any help. |

Everyone (well most of the fellas hate clifford because) of customer service and really long waits on parts you'll call a 100 times and you'll hear the same thing there on the way.But I like my clifford intake and headers it did take awhile to get them but eh i like them.Anywho camshaft check out the erson cams i just got mine in my engine i'm sure someone will show the link to ya i suppose call and ask the guy "give me a huge cam". I'm no expert but if it's drag race only you could probably throw some higher stall on your car maybe 4000 maybe higher who knows? Oh and I believe my uncle told me about fiberglass body panels or fenders you can get to lighten up the car some more. Of course theres always forced induction or some juice.Enjoy Kevin |

Thanks. Once racing season is over I am gonna put as many fiberglass components (where it will save on weight) as I can find. I am also gonna take all the original glass out and replace with lexan. I will also do a few other things to lighten the car up as much as I can. Thanks for the info on the cam. |

The Problem with Clifford is they take your money( up to a year) and dont have the part in stock, then they wait til they have enough orders to have the part made. Most Clifford parts are ok quality wise. Not much choice on headers 6into 1 or 3into 1 or Dutra Duals. Doug Dutra is on this forum as Doctor Dodge of Doc. Click on Memberlist up top and click on PM and he will tell you about them. Search Erson cam buy and this will give you the addy and phone for the group buy for cams from Erson. As for the best cam for you.....well lets say the debate rolls on. I am not qualified to comment on the 198/2.2 stuff although I just aquired a complete 198 engine. Frank |

Cool, thanks for the info. From everything I have read here, I think I will just keep my offey intake. I am gonna use the 198 rods (when I find them) with the 2.2L piston (when I find the best ones for me), bore the engine .100 over. Now for the head. I assume, as with most engines, it is best to use over sized valves. Is this correct with the slant 6? Where is the best place to get the valves? |

For a race only car you can not beat a Clifford intake. They turn up used all the time in the 'For Sale" section and on E-bag. I've had 1/2 dozen of them and never bought or sold one for more than $150. The Offy works good too, but will give up a little top end power to the Clifford. Erson has some decent cams, and there is a group buy deal still in progress I believe. 2.2 pistons will not work with 225 rods. You will end up with a deck height of about -.300" or so. |

Thanks slantzilla, you got a good recommendation as to where is the best place to get the 2.2 piston? It seems that KB keeps coming up.The Offy works good too, but will give up a little top end power to the Clifford. Also is 30W the best motor oil to use. Keep in mind I have always raced 440's and this slant six stuff is new to me. |

Be very careful. You may find yourself afflicted with "Slant Sickness" if you aren't careful.
