Post subject:  Shock Stud - Repair or Replace?

My question concerns a broken shock stud on a 1973 ply scamp 225. The broken stud is the lower rear. Actually the first ¼ inch or so of the threads are broken. I can get the rear washer and shock over the stud but not the front washer and still be able to put the nut on. My questions are:

1) Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can use the current stud? Is there a way to extend the stud? Would a supper thin and strong washer be an option?

2) How is the stud replaced? Does this stud thread into the plate? If so where can I find a replacement? Or is the stud part of the plate and therefore I have to replace the entire plate? Where can I find a plate?

Thanks

Bruce

IIRC, those studs are welded into the plate. You can cut them off, drill a hole through the plate, and install a new stud. You can get new studs at Pep Boys or Autozone, etc. in the 'HELP' section. :D

That part is held on by the rear end U bolts. If you have a junkyard close you might be able to find one. Take plenty of PB Blaster if they wont let you have a saw, the nuts are a peal pain usually. I had the same problem when I swapped axles. I may have one left over from my swap but I don't remember which side it is, I can look if you are interested.

Good luck
