Post subject: | stiffer suspension |
Right now my dart bounces very bad when i hit a bump. It feels as if the shocks dont work at all. What im wondering is how can i make it so my suspension is stiffer, has better handeling and is not to expensive? because when i push on my dart it bounces back and forth and up and down, i would like to eliminate that. thanks |

You need new shock absorbers like _yesterday_. Don't get the junk from the parts stores (Monroe, Gabriel, etc.) unless you are on a McDonalds Super Value Meal budget. I have been very happy with KYB shocks (about $35 apiece or so, you can get from www.espo.com ) for years, but the next pair I buy will very likely be the Edelbrock units. Everybody seems extremely pleased with them. Once you have replaced your dead shocks, you can evaluate what other components might need replacing or upgrading. Torsion bar upgrade would definitely be my next step. |

Post subject: | Edelbrock IAS |
Let me recommend Edelbrock IAS shocks. I haven't installed them on an A-body just yet, however I have a complete set on my 95 Camaro. The ride on that car went from awful to incredible. The IAS system allows for a more aggressive performance tune on the shock while retaining ride comfort. The valve only opens under high-speed conditions such as potholes. A better explanation is on the website... http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive_new ... main.shtml and a decent article here: http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive_new ... rticle.pdf I was ready to sell the Camaro before I put these shocks on. Now I love driving it. I'm sure the 1.5" lowering springs helped too, but the shocks complete the package. |

I also have Edelbrock IAS shocks on my 1968 Dart and they were a huge upgrade from the KYB shocks. The handling improved noticeably, and the ride is infinitely better. They are $75/shock, but worth every penny. Lou |

I have a 75 DD Sport and put Konis on the front end years ago. They are adjustable and warrentied for life and I must say they are quite good in the handling department. I also put Addco sway bars on the car, a car which had none to begin with and overall, it handles really nicely. Rear shocks are Gabrial Hijackers as I recall. I have not driven the car in several years so some of my recollection is abit hazy. That is all soon to change as the restoration continues.... Jeff |
