Hi, starting to put front suspension back together and the 1974 factory service manual calls for 75 ft.-lbs. to be used to tigthen up the torsion bar crossmemebr mounting bolts. The problem is the bolts are only 3/8"-16 bolts. I can't find info anywhere on a 3/8" bolt that can take a force of 75 ft-lbs. Am I safe to assume that it is a typo since most specs call for 40 -45 ft-lbs and the "7" is directly above a "4" on a keypad ??? thanks |

Interesting ....mine are 1/2" (who knows?) The correct torque for mine might be 75 lbs but I just "snug "them so they wont loosen and clamp the crossmenber to the subframe..... I dont want to crush any subframe sheetmetal . If yours are 3/8 then snug is about perfect. Old fart torque wrench theory. A good bolt needs to be as tight as yer old hands can make it with a regular sized box end wrench. A 3/8 bolt / 9/16 box end ....35 ft/lbs. |

That seems strange that they're only 3/8" bolts, all of mine are 1/2" as well. They must at least be grade 8s. I'm partial to putting the impact on and ratting them tight, but that's just me. I've yet to have one come loose or break. |
