i've been running with my oil pressure at 40+ at idle it seems to be high.
i thought it was my rocker shaft that got but in wrong. some one told me the small holes should be at 7 o'clock mine were at 2 i moves the bar and still have high pressure at idle. the manual says i should be running at 8 lbs at idle and 30-70 at 2000 rpms. i didn't run the car to see how high it goes but is that to high at idle

does it sound like i was complaining?? I'm just wondering why it went from 5lbs to 40 at idle after i messed with the rocker shaft and why would the service manual say it should be around 8.

i'm just worried theres a gremlin waiting to pop up.

So just to be clear, it USED to run 4 at idle, you messed with the rocker shaft, and now it runs 40? That does sound like a passage got blocked. Are you getting good oil flow at the rockers? It could also be a conincidental failure of the gauge- are you using a mechanical or electric gauge?

There's nothing wrong with 40 psi at idle, but there might be a problem if something caused a big change in the way it behaves. The numbers in the manual are just guidelines or minimums. All of my cars run far more pressure at idle than the minumum in the manual.

With 10/30 we run right around 20 at idle and 55-60 while at road speed.

General rule of thumb is 10 lbs per 1K of RPM is very safe. But, mine idles at 40psi, and goes up to 50pso when running down the road. All the questions about the gauge are good ones. I just changed from a mechanical gauge to an electronic Autometer one, and the measurement is exactly the same on both.
