Post subject: | another oil pressure question |
I just started my driveway built slant six. It's in a 67 a-body. I used a spare part oil pump, untested by me. The oil pressure gauge is unresponsive. I grounded out the wire to the sending unit, and gauge reads full. then when i reconnect it goes back down to zero. I switched the sending unit for another untested used one. (The sender that I know is good from my old engine is naturally a thinner diameter and won't fit the new oil pump). Any ideas on testing the sending unit or where to obtain a new one[/i] |

Also is it possible the later sending units are made to work with an idiot light and won't work with a gauge? |

What kind of gauge do have? If I remember correctly 67 "A" bodies use a idiot light in the dash, not a guage. PS: If your old sender worked, you can get a reducer bushing in a hardware store or auto parts store, to adapt the old sender to the new pump. |

The gauge is in the round cluster in a 67 barracuda, it just says 'oil pressure' and had an l and an h. The reducer bushing is a good idea, since I know the old sender was working. |

There are gauge-type senders (big) and light-type senders (small). See pictures in this thread for visual ID. Go back to your old oil pump and find the reducer bushing that was screwed into the pump between the small sender threads and the big pump threads, and re-use it. Or buy a new such reducer if you no longer have the old one. |

Did you ever spend all day trying to find/fabricate a part you already have. I just went out, lifted up the old motor and removed the reducer bushing. I swapped in the correct sender, and now gauge is reading about 1/3 of the way up. Slant Six Dan you are the frickin man! |
