Post subject:  Accelerator Pump Clip Tips? BBS

I am having trouble with the clip staying in place on the accelerator pump on my carter BBS carb.

At first I thought that it was that the rebuilt kit I uses had inferior clips (which it may have). So I used one of the old clips and am still having trouble with it holding its position. The clip was missing on this carb when I got it.

Is there something to getting this to stay in place?

Are you sure you are using the right clip? There are several different sizes in the rebuild kit, and while they will all fit on the accelerator pump stem, only the correct clip will fit and stay put.

It has been a while on this one. I abandoned the carb and tried to get my Holley 1920 working.

I tried all the clips from the clip and even the old ones from the carb and couldn't get any of them to really hold it.

Is there any other trick to holding the linkage to the pump? Is there something else I can use? I'm thinking that the clips that came in the GP sorenson rebuild kit are a bit to universal for this application. I don't really want to buy another kit just for a clip that may or may not work.

I haven't had any problems with the clips, but with the design of the BBS pump rod, you could always weave some soft wire thru it and twist it to keep it in place......

That is the clip. I'll have to look at it a bit closer to see what the problem is. If I remember correctly the linkage is pushing down on the pump. I may be able to get things to work after adjusting it.

Yes, the linkage pushes the pump down.

All this clip does is hold up the bowl vent - a small round "coin" looking piece of metal with a slot in it for the pump shaft. The first few pictures show it all together. I have a few more pictures if you need them.

The linkage just slides through a slot at the very end and isn't held with anything.

OK, I was putting the clip above the plate and the linkage was pushing the pump down knocking the clip off.

If the clip goes below the plate, I don't see why it wouldn't work. The parts usually go together better if you are putting them in the right spot.

Thanks for your help.
