.100 thousandths. The pic is the before milling, I started, then had to hurry to finish before closing, so no time for another pic.

Does it matter the finish you leave on it for gasket sealing purposes?

I still need to check the chamber volume. Its still at my work right now. I am going to milll the rocker arm shaft cradles down flat, make a new cradle/spacer for the rocker arm shaft thats .100 thick at the base so I can use the factory pushrods. The surface finish is nice and smooth, I have one spot that needs some touching up. I will post more pics next week. Should I cc the head with the factory valves? I have bigger valves to be installed.

Are you sure you want to go to the trouble? Chances are it is not necessary (though it might be).
If you do make some stands, would you consider making an extra set, and what would you charge. I need a set to raise my rocker shaft higher to allow for longer valves. I was thinking of using a set of bolt on stands, like the W-2 heads. I could give you the dimensions I need.

CC the head after you change valves. It will change your CC reading.

Post subject:  head milling

unless it is something you always wanted, there is no need to move rocker shaft up the same distance you milled off the head surface, there is lot off adjustment on the rocker screws and it bring geometry closer to being right. i have milled .140in block/.080in head and it worked perfect

I will mill the rocker shaft pedestals, its at my shop right now, it will take the least amount of time. Its not something I have always wanted to do, if it saves me from having to purchase shortened pushrods then thats 100 bucks. I dont mind doing it. Charrlie how thick do you need the spacer/cradle to be? I will make mine 100 thou.

I will have to figure that out. Will try to do it tomorrow (Sun). I had just done a mock up, to see hpw it looked, but have not taken measurements, yet.

Post subject:  Icane, you should not need any cradles..

Icane,

I just finished a head with .100 cut off,. Coulda taken maybe a total of .140 off if I cared to, but my CR is about 9:1 now. With big valves from engnbldr the rocker arm still works fine stock. It is adustable, ya know..

I have heard of shorter pushrods being needed, with my luck I will rebuild the head, install it, and WHAMMO..... Russ should have installed the shims.

i think it cool project to make rocker stands especial if you want longer valve but if you put in a larger cam the base circle is smaller in diameter so in most cases with head milling the stock push rod is the right lenght, just something to think about :)
