Post subject:  Is it ok to cut out a Felpro Head gasket for deshrouded valv

Hi Guys,

I just finished up a head milled, .100, pocket ported, gasket matched, intake and ex. ports polished, oversize valves and both valves each cyl. deshrouded. Engine bored. .030 over...then I see the Felpro gasket covers the cutouts where I de shrouded.. Is it ok to use die grinder to cut out the metal part of the gasket surrounding the cylinder where its metal covers over the deshrouded cut? I mat well add aT4 turbo setup later this year, too but don't want to remove my Dutras right now.

I hate to wait for an Australian gasket if I can operate on a Felpro. Unless Felpro makes an oversize gasket?

Thanks

No! That folded piece of metal seals the combustion chamber. Without it, no seal. This is why you put the head gasket on the head and scribe the chamber before cutting. You either need the large bore Aussie head gasket or a new head. Actually, folks have cut on the steel shim gasket with success so that's a 3rd option.

Thanks Joshie,

Yeh,I was afraid of that. I used the Aussie gaasket on another project recently and had its dimensons in my machining setup book. Finished his head and THEN put the Felpro up to it and oops! I do have two steelies though and wanted to use one. Doing so will raise my compression ratio a tad but not enough to sweat. My CC'd volume is 44 now and I think I set the Felpro at .039 compressed...

By the way, is the Aussie head gasket on ebay in the Slant Six section the good one, or even a usable one? I don't see one in GPRS list and I'm out of them.

Thanks

You can get a copper head gasket ( any size) from almost any copper gasket maker (look in national dragster) or from the cox bros.
