Found out Wilcap Co. has a slant six to GM automatic adapter. This should allow a Gm OD trans to be installed in a slant car. Price is $525. I called to see if we could get a price break for multiple units, and how many would be required. They are going to get back to me on that. www.wilcap.com |

Oof. The GM OD transmissions — 200R4, 700R4, 4L60E — need a great deal of expensive work to be even remotely near as good (smooth, efficient, durable, reliable) as a stock Torqueflite. None for me, thanks, I'm drivin'. |

Just listing another resource. From what I have seen, the early A-500 isn't any thing to write home about, either. As you are so fond of saying, "the bean counters took money out of the product", on all the OD automatics, of just about all makes. |

I went through that a few years back, the local tranny shop/ mopar friendly shop said they'd take things in this order if building for a slant six: A-904 (fastest shifting for the weight) 700R4 (not as durable as the THM350, but good enough for a couple hundred HP six cylinder, and you get OD) A-500 -D.Idiot |

I was just a kid at the time but I rebuilt an A-500 3 times and never quite got it running right in my 91 Mighty Max. The guy who bought it from me dropped in a 904 cause I got the 500 working but the OD was dead. I still see the truck running around down the street. I love Mother Mopar with all my car heart, but I wouldn't dog on the chevy auto's to quickly. |

Why not contact AndyF? He has made many slant to SB adapter plates like the factory had to adapt to the SB 727's? Wouldn't that work? Myself? I want to run my 833OD |

He made some adapters and sold them. Hasn't made any more. Yes, such an adapter would work to bolt an A500 to a slant. Me, I want a 5 speed. |

I bet he would make more if the demand was there. He seems like an innovator and all around decent guy. |

Yeah we made a batch of those adapters a few years back. It took me about 2 years to sell them all then and prices for materials have gone way up since then. They were a nice product but I decided that the cost was just too high for this market so I don't have any plans to make any more. I sold all of them to people on this board and I'm not sure that anyone ever used them so there could be parts for sale if you look around.

Andy, I am a machinist, but do not know anything about CNC machining. I am guesing you have a program to make these parts. Whould it be a big hassle to make these adapters, on a "as needed one at a time basis"? I know it would not be as cheap as a production run, but at least there would be something available. Never ceases to amaze me, what some people will pay or not pay for something. |

Yes, we have a CAD program for the part and we still have the machine code for the CNC mill so it is possible to make them. But, they are expensive to set up and they take a lot of time. The cost to make one at a time would be at least $500, if not more. |

| Post subject: | I have one of Andy F's, great part, will sell |
Hi guys, Andy F is one of the best folks I ever dealt with and his parts are museum beautiful. I have used two of his driver side alternator adapters with great pleasure. But, relevant to this thread, I have one of his transmission adapter sets like in his pic that I would sell for what I have in it from several years ago....about $350. Til this summer I was gonna use it and then.....I couldn't get a 500 tranny at a price I could bite on so went with a slant 727 that I got "toughened up" a tad. I really don't mind having the adapter on the shelf just in case, but in a weak moment would sell it. All of us parts lovers know how it is...vacillate from hold to let go. RIght now I'd let go if anyone is interested, but I am not so hot to let go as to put it in parts for sale... rock '64d100 |

Thanks, for the responce. At least you are willing to make one if someone really wants one bad enough. Oersonally, if I had a vehicle which did not require floor mods to install a OD, I think I would spend the money for your part.
