Hastings has a six cylinder 1.5, 1.5, 4.0 mm ring set that will work for those of us using 2.2 or 2.5 pistons. They would also work for custom pistons with 1.5, 1.5, 4.0 mm rings. The Hastings ring set is 2M4689 and is for 3.0L Toyota V6s. If you ask for '93 Toyota Camry SE V6 this is what you get. The top ring and oil ring have a thinner wall section and will have more back clearance, but that's not a big deal. This saves big bucks! The E453K Sealed Power premium rings for an '88 Turbo Dodge are $103.79 a 4 cylinder set and $36.79 a single cylinder set at Rock Auto. The '93 Camry SE rings are $82.79 for 6 cylinders. This saves $94.58 if you buy Sealed Power. I haven't check the Hastings' price. The Toyota rings have the same type of top ring as the turbo Dodge which is a torsional moly, high tensile type, the 2nd ring is the same. I consulted Hastings about the rings and their tech said they will fit. I also looked up the Sealed Power part number for the Toyota in the Hastings catalog and it crosses to 2M4689. My e-mail from the Hastings tech... I see the ring set 2M4689 uses the same top and second rings as 2M4222 and also has a 4.0mm oil ring, but the part numbers for the oil ring are different and I was wondering if the oil rings in the 2M4689 would work on the Sealed Power 533P pistons. It was my pleasure! I'm really happy that the Toyota ring set uses a good top ring so quality isn't sacrificed for cost. Having something of a background in auto parts, a little down time at work, and an internet connection it wasn't difficult to dig up the info. Not having a lot of play money I like to make the most of it. |
