Got a late model head back from machine shop friday, with the bad news of a crack in the #5 exh. seat. Looks like only two options open at this time.....different core, or machine out for "insert", and hope the crack disappears. I have concerns about an "extra" piece of metal inside the combustion chamber, that might come loose, and perhaps hold that valve open for a face-to-face with the piston. Anybody have any advice, pro's/con's, horror stories about the procedure? At this time, I'm leaning toward starting over with a different core. My prob is that slant stuff is getting rather scarce in my neck of the woods. Roger GTS225@aol.com |

Any good machine shop can install them. The last hot street engine I built had a set installed and they have been in their for over 60,000 miles. damuel@kalama.com |

As long as the shop knows what they are doing, inserts are trouble free. aschumers@aol.com |
