That was Chrysler's old Logo wasn't it? And well deserved too. I decided that since my transmission was leaky that I would replace the filter, and pan gasket last night. I removed the pan and saw what appeared to be large chunks of metal sitting in it. "Uh oh" I said to myself, "this looks very bad." Then something about the metal caught my eye. Instead of being metallic in colour, it appeared to be several different shades. So I looked closer and discovered that it wasn't pieces of metal but pebbles. Now I don't know how pebbles found their way into my transmission, but I am impressed that it still works. Only with a Torqueflite... After the filter, gasket, and new fluid, the transmission works much better. But I think I will change the filter and fluid again in the near future, to make sure that it is truly clean. rdb787@mail.usask.ca |

Post subject: | Check the plates... |
I just took apart my engine and was surprised to see the only thing covering the flywheel was a thing metal plate. I suppose that with the bolts tightened up it keeps the junk out but you might want to check that plate. Also the start has a metal plate the connects to the tranny make sure that doesnt have any gaps. Maybe some gasket sealer around the metal would protect it too. Heheh I dont know just an educated guess. |

What you have is road debris that comes from not having the dipstick installed properly. Sometimes they tend to work loose by themselves. Guess what would happen if you had that material in one of the new transmissions! |
