What are the options to getting 4.5" bolt pattern for front drum brakes. Can the small bolt hubs be drilled out & pinned to work? Do not want to change to disc brakes-- I have a friend with a 68 dart convertible & we were discussing options=== thanks Lawrence

I have 10" drums on the front of my Valiant that Moser redrilled to 4.5 pattern. IIRC, they told me there was not enough meat in the hubs to do it on 9" brakes. :?

Post subject:  e-z 4.5" bolt circle

Talked to my friend today-- he had already called moser & they no longer offer that service.
so we're looking for a donor car(kansas)-- might try the volare set-up-- who knows.
Zilla -you don't want to get rid of yours do you? Do you happen to have a pic of how they did it?

Back in the day-- he ran a 65 dart at the track started with a mild 360-- ran best of 12.28 -- cool car-- he then went $$$ w-2's disc/brakes all that jazz-- he finally got it into the 10's 10.97(I think) then sold the car. I was the pit crew many times-- (ya know the guy who tells the driver what he's doing wrong) drinking the beer & helping as needed-- it was fun-- but kids & jobs have changed --we both have dart convertibles that someday they might be running at the same time
thanks Lawrence

Mine are not for sale now, but will be if I get around to putting my Wilwoods on this winter.

Moser just indexed 5 new holes in between the old ones. Mine have 1/2" screw-in studs too.

I did this to a set of 9" drums a while back and also used screw in studs. The hubs had plenty meat to them. At a swap meet I found a old set of Mr. Gasket 4" to 4.5" adapters and used them as a templet to drill the drums and hubs. I have driven this car with this set up for over 2 years and 30K+ miles with no problems.

My 65 Valiant has 9 inch drums, which I redrilled for 1/2 inch allen studs on the 4 1/2 inch pattern. I have a drill jig, I made when I worked as a tool and die maker. Has been that way for about 20 years.
PS: I also redrilled the axels on the 8 3/4 for 4 1/2. The drums have a dual pattern drilled in them. I can change from a 9 x 22.5 x 13 slick on a SBP rim for the 1/8 mile to a 7 x 26 x 15 slick with LBP rim, just by changing axels. By using the same drum, I do not have to readjust the brakes, and keep the 4.56 gear ratio. The same drill jig will work on front or rear.

it seems that Moser would not be the only 'Professional Shop' to be able to handle this. Seeing that a lot of guys are able to do the re-drill at home, it seems that any half-decent machine shop could tackle it without a problem...

For the front, get an upper A arm from a '73-'76 A body and a drum brake spindle set up from a '66-'70 B body.
