Post subject:  interchangiblity of new vs old A body E-brake cables

I had snapped an E-brake cable, and went to a junk yard a few weeks ago to get a new one. The only A-Bodies in the lot were a couple of 75 dusters. I figured with all the commonality of new vs old A bodies, the duster E-brake cable would work.

Short answer: Nope, too long. I can't adjust all the slack out of it.

I wanted to save somebody else the trouble, thus my post.

Anybody have an early A body e-brake cable they want to part with? Or, does anybody know a good way of putting new ferrules on? I can shorten this one, but I want a ferrule that will hold.

Thanks,

Greg

There're a bunch of different A-body cables, so "early" vs. "late" doesn't get us close enough. What year and model are you working on?

I had the same problem. 63 car, 73 cable. I used about 6" of spacer at the adjuster. That made it work. I have had no problems from it.

If there is a West Marine in your area they have ferrules and a Nicopress to crimp them. Lots of rigging on sail boats.
