Since the slant uses the same crank sprocket and chain as the Chrysler big blocks one should only need to come up with a cam sprocket and some hardware to use an existing big block gear drive. I think I need to go to my garage and put my double roller /6 sprocket next to my double roller 440 sprocket and see how far off a big block timing gear is from fitting a slant.

Jeff Droll used to make a spacer that allowed the use of the BB cam gear on a Slant. IIRC, there wasn't a whole lot to it, and Seymour had a scale drawing of it in the SSRN once. :lol:

Seriously though, gear drives take quite a bit more power to run than a chain. Not really something I can afford with my racing Hooptie.
Good sets can improve timing accuracy; some sets do not.

I've been told that gear drives transmit harmonic vibrations from the crank to the camshaft and shorten the life of the valvetrain. Any truth to this???

Happens with chains too. Belts are better. The best way to keep the harmonics from reaching the cam is a good crankshaft damper. In David Vizard's testing small Chevys went faster with the big heavy damper than with the small damper.

It looks like it would be pretty easy to do. The recess for the cam nose in the 440 and the slant sprockets are the same at 2.00". The pin hole looks to be in the same place too. If one put a long enough pin in the cam it would index the spacer and the gear. Some 3" bar stock and a little quality time with the lathe and I could have one.

If you can stand a Chinese gear drive you can have one for less than $100. Otherwise you can get the US made Jeg's version for $220 that even comes with the offset bishings for degreeing the cam.
