 Post subject: Temp and gas read-outs.

Howdy,

A couple questions;

Haven't been able to search out an exact temperature number for the #2 (of four, left to right) reference lines on my '62 temp gauge.
A bit surprised it wasn't in the factory manual.
Does anyone know what that mark should represent (when it's all working properly of course).

I'd also like to know whether the factory typically registered the gas gauge to read accurately at the empty or the full mark. Or, if they managed to put'em both on target, what procedure they used.
Again, not found in the manual or by search.

Neither gauge is precisely calibrated. For that matter, neither are a lot of the aftermarket gauges. There are variations in the sensors, connections, and the gauges themselves.

You could get an idea of what your temp gauge indicates, you could pull the sensor, put it in water of known temperatures for a time, and see what the gauge reads.

On the fuel gauge, you'd have to run the tank dry, then add fuel in increments and note the readings.

Or, just learn what your gauges show when the car seems to be running normally. My temp gauge reads just to the right of center in normal driving when warmed up. One or two needle-widths to the right of that when pushed hard in the summer.

The gas gauge takes a while to get to "Full" and goes well below the last mark on the low side. So, I like to drive on the top half of the tank, never below the quarter-tank mark.
