Is it very important to have the baffle looking thing in top of the valve cover for a race engine only. Mine had to be taken out after the welds came loose and fell down on the rockers. I have a small problem with clearance for the rockers since my shaft has shims under them. This was causing the rockers to bang on the valve cover. With the baffle out it doesnt seem to be a problem. |

Yes, you'll have problems. Read this thread for an explanation and how to combat it. http://www.slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic ... alve+cover John |

I just get the baffled grommets to use on the aftermarket valve covers and I have no problems. With a drag engine, it especially should not be a problem. Lou |

I agree, the grommets with the internal baffles are great plus the Stant 10078 plug in baffle for the PVC. I run a K&N tall breather in the front, and the Stant in the back on the super tall chrome valve cover. It has plenty of clearance for the rockers and doesn't hit the top like the stock valve cover. I think the chrome cover offers much better air circulation. |

I don't see any way the chrome cover would offer an advantage in air circulation. What's your thinking here?

Dan, My thinking is the extra height verses the stock valve cover height for more air circulation, etc. There is just allot more room under the chrome valve covers. My old one had a step down at the rear which really reduced air flow plus the internal baffle lowers the height even more limiting circulation. Using the Stant unit you suggested for the Mopar PVC works great! It does not suck up too much oil vapor. On the front I am using the tall K&N air filter for the inlet. Because of the extra height that airflow and circulation helps keep it a little cooler as well. I have had the cover off several times to try different valve lash settings and the oil does not accumulate or cook on the chrome valve cover like stock units. Maybe the oil vapor has a chance to cool a little more because of the taller height? What ever the reason, whether height, air circulation, air flow, cooler temps or the combination of all the above your suggestions work great! |
