The Manual Steering Gearbox I took from a 70 Dart bolted into my 73 Scamp with out issue... But the 73 Pitman Arm has a larger I D than the shaft out of the bottom of the 70 box... I went back for the Pitman Arm out of the 70 and found that it's tapered fit to the center link is in the opposite direction as the 73's! In short: the 73 Pitman Arm fits the Center-Link, but not the box; and the 70 Pitman Arm fits the Steering Box, but not the Center-Link - What do I do!?!?!? |

I saw over on the MOPARTS page, somebody with the same problem... He solved it by cutting his pitman arm in half, inverting the bottom and welding it back together... that does not seem like the best soloution... |

Use the '70 centerlink? Should be the correct width for the '73. Roger |

WHen I built my 30 coupe, I used to different pitmans. Cut them both in half, and wielded the top half of one, to the bottom half of the other, and ground to fit. |

There are two ways to go. Get the correct large sector steering box or change the center link and idler arm for the '68-'72 style. |

The 73 is the large sector pitman arm for PS. Most manual boxes are small sector. I have a large sector manual box (out of a van??) and the pitman slipped right on. I haven't verified the clocking though...but it should work fine. |

I'm going to try the Pitman Arm from the Duster tomorrow... I guess somewhere around 73 the A-Body's steering set-up was refined to resemble the E-Body version; hence the change in the way the Pitman/Idler Arms are secured to the Center-Link. |
