HEY ALL it`s the black sheep again ,,, i am wondering what a good cam for a street motor is my motor is running a 25/67 cam with 425" lift and i feel it may need a little more to make it go harder .. i am running a 500 edelbrock on a open pluem style 4bbl intake the head is mildly ported ,with over sized vavles and stiffer vavle springs (up to 450" lift ) . humm is a MSD 6AL worth it? i`ve got a eletric dizzy but no module as yet .. so stock or msd ?? the other thing is i did a cam swap on a 318 V8 on the week end and though when a saw the lifters humm it had slant style solids in it they looked like little bar bells .. and the one the went back in looked like a solid bar no oil slot thing , will they go in a slant ??? and if so what about 318/small block roller lifters going in ? and then the thought roller cam for a slant !!!!! you chillen out and thinking .. the black sheep baaa baa baa |

Cox Brothers used to have a couple of blanks for that type of cam, Doc brought one for show n tell. The sad part is on racers can use it since there are a few problems with running a roller cam. One is getting the cam to stay put (if it flops back n forth in the bearings it will trash the lifters), another is getting oil on the lobes themselves since oiling isn't so generous for such an applications, if you get that figured out, then you you might want a new oiling system since the steel used in roller cams is tough stuff and tends to 'chew up' the oil and distributor gear (other brands use bronze gears...), every year you'll want to pull the engine and look everything over to make sure it's in 'good shape'... (so $1000 for a blank, $300 to grind it, $800 for a set of lifters, and another $1000 for the oiling system that doesn't rely on the cam to drive it...and time to make a cam button system to keep the cam in place-both ends)Doc tryed a cast cam that was austempered and it worked good for a few months then started grinding cam chunks into the oil pan.... The power is good, the price for a daily driver is not... -D.Idiot |

For what I guess is your application, the Erson 280int/270exh 0.465" lift cam should work quite well. That may require a high stall converter. Doc has Erson grinding a smaller one, more like yours, for stock stall applications. Lou |
