Post subject:  Title Woes

I have a buddy at work that bought a '46 Dodge pickup on a Washington title earlier this year. He just got the truck put back together and went into Oregon DMV to get the truck registered. Low and Behold, the VIN on the truck doesn't match the one on the Title.
Are there any company's that help to sort stuff like this out?

He's looking at having to get an appointment, tow the truck up to Washington to have the Washington DMV take tracings and sort the title out before he can title it through the Oregon DMV.

He would have to rent a trailer and truck to transport the pickup back to Washington.

The way I always do it is to check the VIN before plunking money down!

Too late for him. He's already started restoring the truck. Oops.

Options?

You can either do this as a individual or if you have a buddy at a tow company... You claim the vehicle was abandoned on your property, you process a lien against the previous title holder via DMV, if they can't pay the 'rent' for storing it on your property, you get to claim it as 'compensation'.... (make sure to make the amount something the preious holder(s) won't pay to get the thing back)

Had to do this for the FDX as Brett had a title that was 'lost'/ signed wrong....

Here's an option that's probably workable in this case.

I've used both the company than SSD has referenced and the one in Alabama (can't remember the name though) with no problems with either one and no problems at my VA DMV.

Cj,we had a posting going on about this sort of thing not to long ago. That was a lost title with Wa.car in Ca.Anyway also can go with the mechanics lien for "unpaid work done".If your friend knows the PO maybe they can help sort it out. It's possible that rig has been running with a mismatched title since it was new,or stolen in 47,who knows.Good luck.

$150 is a lot cheaper than the alternative!

I shot that URL to him. OSP searched on the VIN, and didn't find the truck to be stolen. At least not in this State.

Thank You!
