The starter on my '80 Volare Sl6 is dying a slow death. I know the mini starters from Rams and Dakotas will work but are there any others I can try, like from the Chrysler powered mini-vans?

I'm planning on visiting the boneyard soon so any advice would be appreciated.

Also, since this will be the first time I've installed a starter, is there anything I should know about how to do it properly? I have the FSM handy. :-)

No, front-wheel-drive starters do NOT fit rear-wheel-drive cars. If you want to play with the late-model mini Japanese starter, it's off any '89 or later RWD Chrysler-product V6 or V8. Jeep 6s and V8s are NOT included in the interchange.

Remove negative battery cable from battery
Remove small and large cable connections from starter (do NOT lose washers and nuts)
5/8" wrenches to remove upper and lower starter fixing hardware
Remove starter, do NOT lose starter-to-bellhousing shim plate

Installation is the reverse of removal.

I made a view calls this morning and I can get a used mini-starter for $90 Cdn or a Wilson starter for $87. Is anyone familiar with the Wilson name?
