Alright,my new motor is almost done.I have been searching for a good trans,I have a 904 and they are plentifull but after talking to a couple of tranny guys they say I need a 727 because the pump in the 904 is so small.I have a 225 bored 105 over,10.98 to 1 piston, almost 600 in lift cam, header 4 barrel and a 200 shot of nitrous plus all the required components on the motor. It's going in my 1978 Volare with a quick change rearend.I need to get a reliable transmission.I have seen where some peolple are running a 904 with pretty good luck.I want bulletprrof because if the tranny goes there is a chance of loosing my motor whhice took almost 2 years to have built and I want reliaibility.I contacted Phoenix Trans and they said $1600.00 without a converter.I don'e want to have trans probpems and have to send it to Texas for repairs.I want someone local but they most say the 904 won't live.Any input or someone with a 727 they want to sell cheap ( shippping s so much)please contact me.Also is they going to be a slant six drag event close to Arizona coming up after the 1st of the year?I have been working hard on my car and would like to atten and maby take it for some runs and d get some help from my local slanters.Thank you in advance.

do a search on this site---- many fellow slanters have vast experience/knowledge.. They all are very helpful-- . check the racers topic-- most guys give detailed info--- I believe they all run the 904 tranny(less hp loss) --as long as it has been prepped correctly it will handle the slant- Lawrence

If your trans place is telling you a 904 won't live behind a Slant, you don't need a 727, you need a trans guy that doesn't have his head in his ass. :?

There are probably not 3 Slant race cars in the country with 727's in them.

This guy will build you a killer 904 and not sell you a bunch of crap you don't need. His name is Keith Long and he works for Griner.

I second that, I know of one A-904 living behind a 400 hp 360 in town...a buddy prepped it and made sure it had good components and massaged some of the passages, it shifts faster than a comparible car with a 340 and 727 (and it hasn't been overhauled in 8 years...daily driven, drag strip use during the season...)

All the racers Ive met are running 904s (some are with V8 internals) . I would listen to Dennis (Slantzilla) He knows what He is talking about!!
Dennis also may be able to give you some sound advice about using NOS.
A 200 shot sounds like a BIG shot for a slant???
Thanks
Frank

My car is making somewhere around 370 horse at the wheels on a 150 shot of hose. I have had "0" problems with any 904 I have had in the car. :D

Almost all E.F.G./ Stock cars are running them in Dart and Duster bodys and the cars weigh in the 3400 lbs range with 340 and 360 engines. They run in the low to mid 11's. So for me the 904 is the ticket. I have put 100's of runs on them behind a slant with O problems. Some guys also run them behind big blocks too.

Thanks for the info.I have emailed 727 specilities for a transmission.I just don't want a piece of junk so I'm going to trust you guys on this one.200 shot of nitrous is big but it's only for occasional use ( drag strip). Reapers Racing engines is building my motor and he does a a lot with nitrous on his motors. He built this one with a big shot in mind and we have gotten all all the best pieces and parts avalible. It SHOULD stay together.Like he says it's all in the tune. The biggest problem has been getting the pistons made, needs a big top ring land to hold the rings on.I will certainly be picking Slantzillas brain in the future, seems like he likes nitrous, maby he has a leak in his line? Thanks for the info and I'll keep you posted.Any slant six meets coming up close to Arizona? If I blow it up I want to do it fornt of fellow slanters!

The only race is the kick off of the 08 season at Mopars at the Strip, March 28-30th 2008. It has become the first Slant points race of the season. You are only one state away from Las Vegas Nevada. People come from all over the country for this event. Hope to see ya there.

There will be a race at Speedworld, just outside Phoenix, the weekend before the Las Vegas event. This is the anual H.E.M.I event put on by Mopars Unlimited of Arizona. There is not a specific slant class but there are usually some slant cars out there. Year bfore last, Mike Jefferies was there. Rick Valent is always there and another guy who runs a slant powered 1960 Dodge Phoenix. I'll post more information when I have it. I could probably get the club to put in a slant class if there was enough interest.
