Post subject: new guy and I6 question
PostPosted: Wed Aug 22, 2001 11:04 am
Hey all. Im new to this group and want to say hello. I also have a question. Im building a pro street Gremlin and Im thinking about reinstalling the 232I6 thats in it.
I have a sbc now, but its driving me nuts trying to install it. The car with me will weigh around 2,900 lbs and Im wanting to build a 200-250 horse engine. It will have duals with headers running into 3 inch sidepipes. The tranny will be a 2 speed powerglide with around a 2800 stahl and line locks. Im using an advance adapter to bolt it up. The rear is a narrowed 10 bolt with a posi and 4.56 rear gears and 18.5 mickey thompsons and a 4 link suspension.
Questions. Do you think this will be a good setup? Do you think I would be nuts not to drop in the V8? What, based on horses and my setup, do you think would be my ETs I could pull off? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, PSG

Jeez, you sure are going to a lot of trouble to get this to work, after looking at other AMC/Jeep I6 conversions you could quite easily get a 12.0 ET out of replacing the 232 with a early 90's 4.0, change the computer, stroke it with a crank out of an earlier 258, add some Mopar Performance magic and quite easily see 300hp out of a six. (I've seen a Hornet run along the same lines...).
Best part is, it all bolts right back into place of that 232, no mods, just some common sense engineering...

someguys and their chevy V-8's...

IMO you will run at the bottom 13s TOPS.250hp and 2900lbs and 18" wide tires, THe back tires are gonna kill you on rolling resistance IMO. IMO your gremlin should be around 2700 lbs with a 6 cylinder right? 2900 with a v8? There fairly light cars. 300 hp 6 cylinder at 2700 lbs, then I would assume 11.99s for sure.

I have a friend who races a Gremlin with a 4.0 in it. It weighs about 2400 with him in it and runs mid 13's. (He has won at least 4 track championships with it.)
