Guys I have a '66 904. It is nothing unusual, but I am wondering if it goes directly into 70's slants...the input shaft looks like a 23 spline one on a 833 so maybe 70's would need the bearing into the crank end like the 833 does? thanks rock '64d100 |

A '67 or earlier Torqueflite can be used behind a '68-up slant-6 as long as you install the 1/8" annular adaptor ring in the '68-up crankshaft's counterbore. This can be had from Pat Blais, tflitepatty@verizon.net. On the other hand, a '68 or later Torqueflite will not go behind a '67-down slant-6 unless you either have a custom "small nose/large input shaft" torque converter made, or install a fair number of '67-down parts in the late transmission. be |

Dan, Thanks a million! Other than the 727 I just put in , this 904 is the only automatic I ever had...in anything, ever. I am just not up on them. What you are reporting confirms what my eyeball tells me but my eye isn't what it used to be 40 years ago! I will file this away to help a fellow slanter who may be able to use the tranny. rock '64d100 |

You must use the correct converter, when swapping transmissions. Early trans reqires early converter, and late trans requires late converter. The input shaft spline count changed, between the early and late. |
