Post subject: | Engine mount |
64 Valient Signet 200 convertible. Passenger side engine mount badly cracked. Drivers side looks new. Got a new passenger side mount and tried to remove old one today. Took off the two top and one bottom nut. Started jacking up engine. Whole frame came along. It looks like the old mount has cemented itself (or been cemented) to the frame. Any ideas on how to get it off so I can slip the new one in? |

Sounds like he jacked up the engine and the K-Member went up also. I'd jack up the motor a bit and use a large punch and hammer to whack the bottom half of the mount. Whack top too after bottom comes free. |

I'm not sure what a K-Member is, but it looked like if I'd kept jacking, eventually I'd have had the tire off the ground. The part of the frame that the bottom of the mount attaches to was coming up. When I put it back down, it seemed that the crack in the mount had gotten bigger, so I think I was on the right track. I love the idea of the punch, the hammer, and a good whack. It sounds like an Irish drinking song. Even better, it sounds like something I'm qualified to do. I wonder if I should have that front quarter up on a jack stand before I give the engine a slight lift so I'll have room to swing the hammer? |

mount removal----- you might have to loosen the other mount to get clearance. not sure how you are lifting/jacking --make sure you are moving engine only (lifting the engine would be best-- leaves more room underneath) also a large pry bar will assist removal & you will not be swinging/bashing steel or flesh. the "K" frame is the engine cradle. when out of the car it looks like a "K"-- |

Do I need to disconnect anything else? Accelerator linkage? Radiator hoses? |
