In a 33 Dodge coupe. the front axel is under the radiator, so it was legel to run because the firewall was not cut.It had an legel engine setback. I could go off the line at 7000 with 7 inch m&h slicks which was the limmit back then. I had to "safety wire the bolts that held the flywheel on. I was getting 300 hp back then. Chrysler told me that if your flywheel comes loose[without the wire] you are getting 300hp. |

I buy that too. As a matter of fact, I had to abort my project recently, but was aiming for: 3x 45/45 DCOE webbers, 294/286 (246/242 @ 050) .510 lift cam, 112° LSA 108° ICA, big tube headers, fully ported head with O/S valves, 11,5:1 CR and besides some minor things such as floating pins and double roller timing chain, a pretty much stock short block. |

on a light body you can get into the 12's with less than 250 hp. on a heavy body, on the other hand, you can have 450 hp and get high 12's or even low 13's. This comes down to how much power you can put to the pavement and how much weight you're moving.

I am skeptical, that you did this with a slant six, but I will not say you couldn't/didn't, I would just like a little more info on the build. What Olds pistons did you use?

From 2004-2006 I had mine deep into the 12's many, many times in full street trim with a 3250# car. So what? |

IIRC, Leighton Drake ran his Simca into the 12s on motor way back when with similar mods. Lou |

I must admit,,,Most of my runs were 13.1 range at 101.5 mph but once in a blue moon i'd hit 12.9 102mph. I still have the engine under my work bench w/out the head on it. I get a chance I'll look to see the number on the pistons. Remember this was 40 years ago so I don't remember alot of the details. You must first find absolute TDC by the stop method. You can do this with the head on or off. Then split the overlap on the cam. this gives you the most hp. Then you can retard for power or advance for rpms. I found the spliting the overlap is best [most hp] you can advance or retard the cam [alittle] by adjusting the valves tighter or looser. Pete McNicle and I both ran in the 12s back then and we both had 33 Dodges. He maybe had a 33Ply. If you look back in the record books you will see my name or his there. |

You can advance and retard the cam with small block Chevy bushings. The Chevy has the same size pin on the front of the cam as the/6 does. That is to correct the cam timing. If I remember you drill the cam gear out to 13/32 and insert the Chevy bushing. |
