| Post subject: | 3PSI non-adj or adj fuel pressure regulator sources? |
Hi, I realized needed fuel pressure regulator that's non adjustable or adjustable at 3PSI that weber carbs requires. I do have the part number made by redline but that involves 3 weeks total to get it for about 20 dollars cheaper while I could get one locally but this is racing part at 100 dollars. My friendly mechanic used to able to get CR brand fuel regulators for 30 but canadian prolator no longer carry it. I'm in southeastern Ontario. I have feeling that there should have options still! It looks like Holley still offer one that'll do 3psi, see here. I remember the Purolator dial-adjustable units, too (I also remember having problems with them...they tended to stick closed and you'd have to open the hood, turn the dial to the maximum pressure setting, crank the engine, then dial it back to where you wanted it) but they seem to have disappeared. Probably wise to avoid the Mr. Gasket dial-adjustable regulator — I find an uncomfortably high number of "leaked and showered my engine with gasoline" reports about that (probably Chinese) item. The Holley regulator has 3/8" pipe thread inlet and outlet fitings, so you'd just install the appropriate NPT-to-hose-barb fittings for your fuel line size and off you go. But, I found at least one report of problems with the Holley regulator, and there seems to have been a shift in recommendations, away from 3psi + regulator and towards 4psi w/o regulator. Ordered the holley regulator (unfinished and low PSI version) I think 12-408. IIRC. for rounded up 44 canadian dollars. I'd love to have carter 4PSI pump, unfortunely the auto part shop cannot get it. Cheers, Wizard |

All I can do is shrug- Mine's been under the hood of my daily driver for about a year, no leaks, never has "stuck" either closed or open, just seems to work as unobtrusively as you can possibly imagine. I forget its there until I happen to see it. In my applicatioin, it isdown very low and away from the engine so that if it ever did leak the gasoline would drop right on the ground, not on the engine. </edit> Mr Gasket makes an adjustable inline (non-return type) regulator and its under $30. It covers about 1PSI to 10 PSI, and I run mine at 4 psi. I picked one up hanging on the shelf at my local O'Reilly Auto Parts. Non-return regulators aren't exactly the bees knees when it comes to precise regulation, but according to my inline gauge, this one is holding the pressure to within +/- 1/2 PSI, which should be just fine. |
