Does anyone know if going to higher or lower radiator cap rating (from the stock cap pressure of 16 lbs.) will effect warm up times during the winter months?

Does anyone know if going to higher or lower radiator cap rating (from the stock cap pressure of 16 lbs.) will effect warm up times during the winter months?

Shouldn't make a bit of difference. Taking off the engine driven fan would make more sense as would a block heater if you're looking for a quicker warm up. |

Ted, I'm afraid you're still not looking in the right place for the reason your engine isn't attaining or maintaining operating temperature. It's not because of your radiator cap, and it's not because of your fan's presence (nor is your fan "too efficient"). Somehow or another, coolant is likely bypassing the thermostat. |

I've recently tried 2 different rad. caps. Stant and NAPA. Neither one would go past the stock bronze fitting on the radiator end of the overflow hose. Also, I do not like the design of the Stant Swivel Cap.They are difficult to remove. I am looking for an OEM style cap with the two "ears" rather than the octagon shape. Anyone know of a source for this style cap' other than the dealer? (I'm using a 195 stat,and it"s working well.) |

Dunno if you get echlin over in the states- but they do make or at least supply the stock typeI had another radiator problem - my top tank was somewhat worse for wear so when I had the rad rebuild they pannel beated it - afterwards I had constant fluid loss No leaks, not bubbling witch might indicate a blown gasket, no mayonaize in the oiling depart ment Until I noticed that once the car is up to working there is a constant drip from the over flow - Replaced caps no luck - I had a close look at the seat where the cap seals - the thing is ever so slightly warped
