I think my circuitboard is toast . I know I can get another cluster for it , but it has two dummy lights instead of all gauges. Im going searching at a couple of yards tommorrow , but if I end up with the one with lights , can I put the gauges in place of the lights , or better yet , can I just take off the back and replace mine with it . Any responses will be appreciated. Dave |

Yeah that would work, either swapping your gauges into the idiot light cluster or the board onto your cluster, as the wiring harness won't matter, only real difference is that your sending units are already there to work with the gauges; yours with the gauge works like a rheostat to dim your dash lights, the ones for the idiot light are just on/off. Its easier (and less likely to break the board) to put your gauges in the other cluster, Ive seen those boards get a little brittle over the years and crack. |

Thanks , That is what I was hoping for. I would rather keep my gauges than the lights. Dave |

as long as they are the same diameter you should be allright. I didn't realize that the d150's have a couple different options for that, I've only owned the one for a year or two.I know I can get another cluster for it , but it has two dummy lights instead of all gauges. Dave you might run into a difference between the shape of the outer plastic (cover) versus the shape of the backing plate (where they meet). that is the one from your truck right? |

Yeah its for my truck . For what I researched , 1981-1984 are the same ,maybe up to 1986 Some of the later ones look the same , but the placement for the gauges are switched around , and the back is different. Thanks Dave |

I just came back from the junkyard ,and I got a cluster from a '84 d150. Swapped the dummy lights to my gauges ,cleaned up the back good ,and changed out the bulbs. I plugged everything in , crossed my fingers , and I have dash lights and all my gauges are working . I would like to thank everyone with their input. Youv'e got to love this truck . With only a phillips head screw driver ,I got the instrument cluster out in 5 min. Dave |
