Post subject:  Brake rebuild!!
Hello guys,

a new guy here, i just got my 71 valiant and as i was going thrugh the evaluation process, i found the front brake pads are pretty low and the driver disk is "soured" where if has deep wear marks, i haven't removed anything yet,
I was going though kragen and autozones websites and kragen only offers "stock replacement pads" & no disks. autozone offers stock replacement pads and disks,

So i was wondering if anybody sells upgrade pads with a little more bite and who makes the better replacement rotors.

I haven't removed anything yet since i was evaluating the options.

NAPA's top of the line rotors are pretty good.

As for pads, are you looking for "good practical street" pads, "haul my drag car down from 110 mph" pads, or "make it through an endurance race at Laguna Seca" type pads?

Look to spend around $80-$100 each on those rotors depending on where you get them. Parts for those KH setups are getting expensive and hard to find. :shock:

that's what it is!!

it's still cheaper than the rotors i had to get for my wifes' lexus!!!

so where can i get these prerformance pads, which have you guys tried and are good.

I spoke too soon,

i noticed later that there was some fluid leaking from that caliper, and in closer examination found out that the hydraulic line was leaking, but ut was that the threads on the caliper were completely gone!!!

so now i need to replace a caliper, and get pads and rotors.

is cardone a good replacement or raybestos - for calipers?
is thus raybestos the only replacement pad option?
rotors, i was already informed that would have to be napa!

Since it's on topic, what would be the best stopping (street driving, not racing) pads and shoes on a stock 1971 disk/drum setup if cost & wear were not at all important?

I've read of carbon, kevlar, ceramic, etc. materials and I've heard that there may be a place that will reline your old backing plates with these new materials, so I'm thinking it might be worth it.

Try PraiseDynoBrake.com they have lots of modern friction material for older cars, rebuild services, complete kits. You may have to call for specifics if not found on the web.

Raybestos is a good brand; Cardone's one I'd avoid. It is possible to have stock type pads relined if you're looking for pads that can take higher temperatures, although I've lost my notes on who does that.
