Post subject:  Unstable voltage

I Have the flickering headlight syndrom.Voltage gauge at 700rpm in stable (13Volts). With a little more engine rpm (850) the voltage moves up a little to 14 volts. Anything above 850 rpm the voltage needle starts to bounce between 15.8 and 14.3. This is what I concerned with. I am planning to install a FAST EFI system sometime an I am concerned that the wild voltage will not be good for the electronics.
I am running the late model alternator and the twp pin plug type regulator.
Link shows alteranator and the regulator if I was clear on the type.

What to do?

By far, the most likely cause of your problem is the voltage regulator; almost all new replacements are electronic inside and will serve fine. Next thing is a bad ground right at the regultor, and of that isn't it, you might have a intermittant connection inside the alternator or wiring.

I used to think this, but Beater Valiant had one of those 'electronic' inside VR's, and it went bad and caused some charging issues, I rewired the '67 to use the 1970+ Electronic VR, and used a Standard VR-125, so far the thing charges right up after start, and the needle on the amm gauge barely moves when turn signals are on (even with headlights, stereo blaring...), and I have nice steady head lights right down to 700 rpm... When I put the FDX together it will also get these quality components...

The newer 'electronic' regulator crapped out for me, so I ended up making up one..........
