Well, I figured out today that the float in my Carter BBS has gas inside of it. Is an old brass carb float repairable or do you just replace them? Sorry if that seems like a stupid question. I have never ever had a float go bad! If a new float is the only way to go, am I even going to be able to find one? I am making the assumption that I am not going to find one at Autozone  maybe that is a bad assumption. And our NAPA is closed today. Anyhow, thanks for your thoughts guys, Chris E. |

It should be replaced. In an absolute emergency I've seen them soldered up if the hole is small but that would be the absolute last resort for me. |

what they do is unsolder the pinhole so you can pour out gas and flush it with varsol or acetone, then blown dry with N2 or CO2 (freeze spray one of those) then plug the hole and try to locate the leak then dry again, solder this pinhole shut. then the hole shut. More and more are going plastic foam (blah!!) even for many carbs that had metal.  I RATHER prefer metal. for my weber but they do not have it anymore.Cheers, Wizard |

All BBS carbs use the same float. Replace it, don't try to repair it. |
