After realizing my machine shop had done a Chev job on my slant I decided I need to know more than what they had told me. I wanted to measure chamber volume. My wife works at the hospital so I got her to filch a 60cc syringe with a catheter tip. Tip means no needle.....all you get is a tapered tip like on the RTV tube....it fits neatly into a 5/16 hole. I need a "lid" for my chamber so I ripped a CD case in half and drilled 2 holes in the clear side.....one of them 5/16 and the other,,,,smaller. I glued the cd case to the head using Vaselene ......... I filled the syringe with Isopropyl alcohol and squirted it into the chamber till I had just a tiny bubble.....= chamber volume.....mine are 60cc Bonus trick: To measure piston/deck height.... You need a small square and a bunch of feeler gauges. Hold the square across the cylinder with the piston at TDC ..... stack feeler gauges on top of the piston till you are just under the square.....say .110....and then using thinner gauges measure the exact distance between the square and piston.....say .006 Example.... .028+ .032+.026+ .024= .110 + .006 ( I tried 004 .005 and .007 as well) gave me .116 as my deck height. |

Good stuff Sandy! If you (or someone) would add some step-by-step pics it should be in the article section. |

you must have read my mind, i have been using that method for years, if it works on one coast then it must works on the other. 60cc is a large chamber did you have machine work done on the chambers? ![]() |

The chambers have been swept around my 1.72/150 valves. I wanted to Keep the head as big as possible and do any compression changes by decking the block. Right now the deck has ben milled 30 leaving .116 .....I had asked for .060..... I wanted 9.25:1CR they gave me 8.6. I plan on taking .080 to .100 off.....I need more math. |

yes i found that way better on performance, with my 11.4/1 comp motor i had 0.060 off the head and .140 off the block, the chamber was 52cc`s, with 1.80int/1.60ex. |

Tractor Supply sells really big horse, and cow sized syringes. Also great for squirting warm salt water up your nose to clean out the sinuses! |

Around here the feed stores have them as well...I got 2 60cc specials from my vet. for free when I asked while taking my cats in for their check ups (probably not likely for the city dwelling vet, but we have farmland close by and most of the local vets. do farm visits.) -D.Idiot |
