what is the reason for the hatred of a fram filter, i have used nothing but fram oil/gas/air for years with no problems

Fram uses only the cheapest of materials and inferior construction to produce the lowest grade oil filter on the market.

That just means you've been lucky so far, just like the guy who's smoked cigarettes for three decades and doesn't yet have cancer or emphysema, or the guy who's refused to wear seatbelts for fifty years and hasn't yet had his face resculptured by a steering column or windshield. Fram filters are poorly made from low-quality materials. The link Steponmebbbboom provided is one of many good ones on the subject.

A cheap filter cost me an engine....it was made by Mighty Inc. for the Valvoline Lube Center near our home. I make them install a WIX filter on all my engines. A Wix 1515 for the 440's and a 1806 for the Slant. They are glad to do it.

Are you sure you dont have that backwards?I have been running the 1515 on my slant,also lost a rod bearing,will do a search and read posts,mark

1806 = 1515 with built-in standpipe for instant oil pressure in applications (like the slant-6) with base-down filter installations.

i don`t think i am that lucky or i would have won the lotto by now, i am just at odds with the cheap materials they are made from and my use turning up no problems even racing but i have nothing to compare it to sense i have not used any others. the only story i have from around here is a purulator filter colapsing internally.

One doesn't follow from the other. I know a lot of people with rotten luck, who can't catch a break when it comes to housing, transportation, or work. But none of them has been struck by lightning!
So are we at odds with the cheap materials they're made from. That's why we recommend not using them. But it sounds like you're trying to say you don't believe Fram filters are junk. Okay, that's certainly your choice to believe whatever you want, even when facts and evidence are placed right in front of you. But this kind of reminds me of Santa Claus: no matter how hard you believe in him, he doesn't exist. Likewise, no matter how hard you want to believe that Fram filters are cool and excellent…

…they're still trash.

Man, I gata stop using Fram. Friggin POS... I just got one to do an oil change, I guess I will take that back. What is the best filter to use? The Wix?

What about oil, I use Penzoil 10w-30, is that ok to use?

Oil is a matter of preference. I can recommend Valvoline (or Napa oil, same thing) because thats what I've used for 20+ years. Others may like Castrol, my dad swore by Quakerstate because thats what his dad used, my father in law only uses Havoline. For oil filters, can't go wrong with either Wix (Napa and CarQuest filters are also Wix) or Purolator. Never a problem with either.

I prefer Wix (or Napa Gold) and full synthetic oil. I started using synthetic when I was 17 and never looked back.
